When to Consider Orthopedic Sports Medicine Evaluation
Shoulder, knee or elbow symptoms can affect sports, exercise, work and daily movement. An orthopedic sports medicine evaluation may help identify the cause of pain or instability and determine whether nonsurgical care, rehabilitation, arthroscopic surgery or another treatment approach may be appropriate.
Common reasons to schedule an evaluation may include:
- Shoulder, knee or elbow pain that lasts more than a few days
- Pain, swelling, stiffness or instability after an injury
- Difficulty lifting, reaching, walking, throwing or staying active
- A sports injury, work-related injury, sprain, strain or fracture
- Reduced range of motion, weakness or trouble using the affected joint
