When to Consider Orthopedic Care

Shoulder, elbow, hip or knee symptoms can affect sports, exercise, work and everyday movement. An orthopedic sports medicine evaluation may help identify the cause of pain or limited function and determine whether nonsurgical care, rehabilitation or a surgical treatment may be appropriate.

Common reasons to schedule an evaluation may include:

  • Shoulder, elbow, hip or knee pain that does not improve
  • Pain, swelling, stiffness or instability after an injury
  • Difficulty lifting, reaching, throwing, walking or staying active
  • A sports-related or work-related injury
  • Reduced range of motion, weakness or difficulty using the affected joint
